Use buttons below to view more information about Skylark.

Skylark is a single owner boat.  She is one of four Black Horse 32s built and is in impeccable condition.  If you want to know just how well this owner has cared for Skylark, just look in any bilge. They are spotless.  Every year she has been wintered in a heated shed in Boothbay at the Hodgdon Yard. Awlgrip on the hull last year, 2015.

Layout and Design

Hull and Deck

Skylark's hull was made by Morse Yachts in Thomaston, Maine.  She was vacuumed bagged using vinylester on a foam cored fiberglass layup.  She is hard chined with a full length keel and integral skeg. She also has a lifting strake that continues all the way forward to reduce spray.  The topsides were sprayed with Claret Awlgrip last winter and she has a with boot stripe.  There is an upper and lower rub rail both with polished stainless steel.  The lower wraps around the painted swim platform.  Swim platform is non-skid with folding cleats in the aft corners.  The transom is high gloss teak with painted name and hail.

Skylark's deck is painted white with grey non-skid on fiberglass.  The toerail is high gloss varnished teak capped with polished stainless steel half round.  She has a bow rail made of 3/4" polished stainless steel tubing.  The varnished teak bowsprit with centered anchor roller holding a 35 lb. CQR anchor with 300' of 5/16" stainless steel chain.

The aft deck is opened and clean.  There is storage in the lazarette and first step.  The second step stores the propane bottle.

The cabinhouse has three opening portlights per side and with three hood hatches on top and two teak varnished dorade boxes with SS cowels.   Each side has a varnished handrail. The windshield is beautiful sloped varnished teak with three large high temper laminated glass panes all with a wiper.  There is a small rectangular opening window centered down low.

The pilot house has a collapeable canvas bimini with a storage boot and large center opening.  In the pilot house everything is painted like the deck and trimmed with high gloss varnished teak.  There is and "L" shape settee to port and two Pompenette chairs for the helm and navigation stations.  Two large hatches in the sole open into the engine room.

Below Deck

Below deck is a very efficient and pleasing use of space.  The galley is to port as you come down the companionway and head is to starboard. Forward of the head is a hanging locker before you get to the "V" berth.  The insert for the "V" berth is actually a mahogany table the telescopes up. Under the berth mattresses the multiple latched storage compartments for ample storage of gear, provisions and spare parts.  There are reading lights port and starboard and dome light centered overhead.

The sole is satin varnished teak and holly.  Varnished dark mahogany cieling strips accenuate the large berth and curve of the hull. The rest of the furniture is white Formica with satin varnished mahogany trim.  The overheads are soft insulated covering with mahogany trim.

The first thing that stands out as you head below is the Corian Cobalt countertop of the galley.  It adds color and function to this customized space.  The deep stainless steel sink is center with a two burner Princess propane stove aft of that.  The stove has both a custom wooden cutting board and a Corian cover.  There is another Corian pull out just outboard of the stove for the trash.  Outboard the whole length of the galley is storage behind tinted Lexan sliders.  The Sub-Zero refrigerator is forward of the sink built in with the vertical mahogany face door.

Expanding on the Corian Cobalt counter tops in the galley, the head has the same bright blue counter highlighting the custom ceramic sink painterd with a beautiful Maine light house.  The faucet is on a long cord to double as a shower and the head continues with the Formica wall paneling and varnished mahogany trim.  Behind the sink is storage behind the same tinted Lexan as the galley.  The Vaccuflush head is mounted on a highgloss painted plinth.  Because the head is just beneath the nav. station there is a latched hatch to excess all the electronics easily for maintainence or upgrades.

Nav. Station and Electronics

Skylark's nav. station was clearly thought out by someone who has been running boats a long time.  Everything is easily sighted and with both a foot rest and step, whether you are seated in the adjustable Pompenette helm chair or standing  the orientation of all your equipment is natural.  Sticking with the classic aesthetics of the rest of the boat the nav. station is high gloss white Alwgrip highlighted by high gloss varnished teak.  The custom dash is centered with the main chartplotter, a Garmin GPSmap 5212 and topped with a polished SS Ritchie compass.  The Garmin plotter is flanked by two Raymarine Pathfinder Plus RL70C units.  Below is a list of all the equipment in the station:

  • Garmin GPS5212 Chartplotter

The engine is hard mounted forward and fitted rubber anti-vibration mounts.  The two aluminum 100 gallon fuel tanks are mounted outboard port and starboard.
